The majority of our vines are found in the vineyard of Pündericher Marienburg. The vineyard lies on the opposite bank of the river from the village of Pünderich and has a south-southeast orientation.
In the site’s original location, directly below the Marienburg monastery, gray slate dominates. This is where we harvest the grapes for our Großes Gewächs “Marienburg GG.”

On historic vineyard maps, this section of the vineyard, above the Pünderich viaduct, is referenced with the highest rating. The red slate that dominates here offers the wines an herbaceous, spicy note, which, with a little residual sugar, comes into even greater focus. In hot years, the south-east orientation is superior to the south-facing sites.

This extremely stony and terraced south-facing slope is comprised of very hard blue slate. The Rieslings that emerge from this site consistently fascinate as a result of their almost salty minerality.

As the German name suggests, hawks (“Falken”) nest even today in the gaps among the stones that surround this site. The parcel— always appraised by the old winemakers in the village as the best in Pünderich—is particularly well-protected from wind. Falkenlay wines often show creamy, fruity flavors.

This parcel’s 5 terraces nestle between the rocky outcrops to the side of Falkenlay. 70-year-old vines produce small, healthy grapes. Year after year elegant wines of great concentration are the result.

This is the name given to Falkenlay on the official Land Register. We use the name to designate a small selection of vines from a terrace on higher ground. They produce a wine of exceptional concentration and density.
